The Divine Nature of Jesus

Image
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).  For centuries Johns words have been the primary defense for the idea that Jesus is truly God. The very idea that Jesus is truly God and truly man has been challenged throughout the centuries, and as Christians, we are called to the defense of this truth against those who would try to threaten this very fundamental truth. Men such as Arius arise time and again to declare that Jesus is a created being. If Jesus is a created being then he longer shares the attributes of God and, therefore, is no longer God. The truth is, if Jesus isn’t truly God then He could not have qualified to be the final and perfect propitiation for our sins.             The verse that comes under the most scrutiny in the challenge to the view that Jesus is a created being and therefore not God is Col. 1:15 which says, “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature.” The word ‘first

When talking about the eternal security (or lack thereof) of infants and the mentally infirm one must tread very carefully. This particular subject is a delicate one, and many are healing from the pains of a precious little child being ripped from their arms far too soon or has a child who will never rise above the mental capacity of about a four-year-old. The Word of God is the final authority, and no matter what it may say that we either agree with or disagree with, we observe and believe that God is just, and we the creation worship Him.             The first question that must be answered in one of anthropology, that is we m

The Triune Nature of God

On the topic of Christian theology, it is important to answer the very first and most important question, who is God? Further, can we even really know God? We begin here, but the topic itself is so vast that to answer this question would require multiple posts. To be honest, God is so vast that I suppose if I wrote on nothing else for the rest of my life I would still only scratch the surface. Think of this initial post then as an introduction rather than an exhaustive study. That being said, God is knowable, He has revealed Himself through His Word and through the person of Jesus Christ. In this way we can affirm that God is fully and completely knowable.             First and foremost, God is One in essence, yet exists eternally as three Person: namely the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The traditional term for this existence is called the Trinity, the Biblical term is Godhead (Col. 2:9, Acts 17:29). Perhaps the clearest scripture to deal with
